Houndshill goes mad as a hatter for charity

14 October 2016

Houndshill Shopping Centre fully entered into the spirit of a fundraising event for Great Ormond Street Hospital and Aspired Futures this summer with an Alice in Wonderland theme.

The Blackpool centre, owned by New Frontier Properties, not only raised an impressive 4,519 for the charities but also won an award for the best theme.

Houndshill was transformed into a magical wonderland with many of its retail tenants taking part in the days activities. These included a White Rabbit Race, a Mad Hatters Tea Party and face-painting, mask-making and hat-decorating in the Curiously Creative Corner. Real-life characters from the book were on hand to help shoppers capture the day at the specially-created photo booth.

Providing added sparkle, stars of the BBC childrens channel CBeebies – in town at the invitation of Blackpool BID – donned Alice in Wonderland costumes and mingled with customers.

The event, part of the One Great Day nationwide fundraiser, was considered a huge success. The money will benefit Great Ormond Street Hospital, the biggest childrens hospital in the UK, and Blackpool-based charity Aspired Futures, which provides therapeutic support to vulnerable children and young people.

Houndshill will be taking part in charity events again next year to raise more money for good causes.
